Resolved Question: Question about suitable living quarters for family, please read?

My husband and I, along with our two children ages 9 and 6 (1 boy and 1 girl) recently moved to Arkansas due to lack of work in our previous state. We moved in with our friends whom we met online over 3 years ago. They were about to lose their home and end up on the street as well, so we all figured we'd help eachother out and that's how we ended up here. Our roomates have two children as well, a 9yr old boy (which my son shares a room with in the basement) and a 6 yr old girl (which my daughter shares a room with upstairs in an actual bedroom). During the colder months it's not so bad, but since the summer, my husband and I have noticed a very strong mold smell coming from the basement (which is where my son sleeps). After talking to our roomates with our concern, it was said that the cracks in the foundation would be fixed, 3 months later nothing has been done. Meanwhile, since my husband and I do not have a room, we have put up temporary walls in another section of the basement with heavy tarp and sleeping on an air mattress. I have severe allergies and acute asthma so this mold has been making it very hard to breathe, especially at night. Our roomates do not run any air conditioning because they complain that when they do their bill is $200 or more, so my husband and I mentioned levelized billing which they inquired about and is supposed to keep the energy bill at $130 a month, which is good right? My husband and I also told them were going to get a small window air conditioning unit for our "made" bedroom in the basement so I can breathe at night, and since then our roomates have not gone on the levelized billing and told us they are only paying $70 a month for energy and were left with the rest of the bill. Also, since this summer's heat and cracks in the basements foundation, not only is there black mold, but also bugs. We have all bombed the house last month, which we told our roomates that we'd have to bomb again for a follow up application (which they ignored) so all the roaches, crickets, spiders, centipedes, fleas and red ants are back in the home. Our children do not have beds (as we had to leave everything behind when we moved) so they sleep on folded blankets on the floors in their rooms. Since my son is downstairs in the basement, he gets more of the effects than my daughter upstairs does. He wakes up itching and has dozens of red ant bites all over his back and arms. Took him to the Dr. and he said the bites aren't infected and to just put anti-itch ointment on him. So now, every night before bed I have to spray my son with 40% deet insect repellent! Needless to say, our living arrangements have not worked out the way everything was originally planned...and I was curious since now my husband and I are going to have to widen our bedroom walls and have our two children sleeping in our room on air mattresses...is a basement even considered to be a bedroom if it's a make shaft one? And with all the mold and bug problems, what can we do about it? My husband and I are looking into moving out, trying to locate some public housing or worse case scenario get into a motel room temporarily. I can't believe some people. My family feels used as we helped them get back on their feet so they wouldn't have to be on the street, and now they're making our lives miserable. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thank you I apologize as I did forget to mention the bills my family pays to our roomates. Since our roomate's fiance's mother took a loan out to refinance the home, we pay half of $425 a month to the mother, which is $212.50, we also split the energy, water and cable/internet. Everything is spit 50/50 up until recently since our family is only allowed downstairs in the basement which to us is not 50/50 but yet were being charged for use of the whole house and then split in half. I am wanting to contact the "actual" landlord which is our roomates mother-in law, but they will not give this woman's info so I can look her up to call her. Also, another thing my husband and I find quite odd is that our roomate's claim that the landlord does not accept money orders or checks....cash only, but I demand a reciept for everything were paying in this house. Our roomates claim they have to drive to drop off payment to the landlord, so I can't get a written reciept from her...just seems fishy to me :(

Resolved Question: Hotels along Highway 66 question?

I haven't stayed in a motel since I was a kid. Now we are going to travel along Hwy 66 from the West Coast to Arkansas next summer. We have 3 kids. I would probably get a king room for us with an adjoining room for the kids. But I was wondering something. Can I rig the adjoining room door to be unlocked from both sides? If I have to check on them or they have to come in to our room? Also, any 'stay away from this hotel - it stinks' or 'this place is great' advise would be appreciated. Thanks.

Resolved Question: I live in Arkansas and I am in Pennsylvania right now.?

I live in Arkansas and I am in Pennsylvania right now. I have a greendot prepaid visa card. The motel charged my motel for one week to many. I realized this Saturday, we called greendot, and they had him fax a release to reverse charges. I checked out of motel this morning, greendot has not credited my account back. They told me it would be 10 business days before it would be posted. I have pay checks in my mailbox at home but no way to get them. I told them I only had $60 left and was 1500 miles from home and had to be back at work on july 1st. They insist there is nothing they can do, I would have to wait. If I have to stay in a shelter here waiting for another week, and lose my job, do I have a legitimate lawsuit? They refuse to cooperate with me. I know there is a way that they can credit my account back, but they say it isnt possible. I just dont believe there is no such thing as cant. What can I do about this? The motel manager faxed the credit card company, to reverse charges 3 days ago, yet they will not release for another 7.

Resolved Question: BUSINESS LAW QUESTION HELP!! 200 words!?

I know i should not be doing this but i lagged off in this class the whole year. PLEASE HELP ME I AM BEGGGGIIIING A. D. Lock owned Lock Hospitality, Inc., which in turn owned the Best Western Motel in Conway, Arkansas. Joe Terry and David Stocks were preparing the motel for renovation. As they were removing the ceiling tiles in room 118, with Mr. Lock present in the room, they noticed a dusty cardboard box near the heat¬ing and air-supply vent where it had apparently been concealed. Terry climbed a ladder to reach the box, opened it, and handed it to Stocks. The box was filled with more than $38,000 in old currency. Lock took possession of the box and its contents. Terry and Stocks filed a suit in an Arkansas state court against Lock and his corporation to obtain the money. Questions: 1. Should the money be characterized as lost, mislaid, or abandoned property? 2. To whom should the court award it? 200 words would really be great.. :)

Resolved Question: What is your opinion on this beginning?

The city lights fade in the distance, a soon to be distant memory. I slump down in my seat and let the sound of Framing Hanley fill my ears. I blast the volume to drown out the oldies. My poor Zune only goes up to 20. It does the job for now though. I am not even upset this time; it’s that time of year. Mom feels trapped in a relationship or in a job and we pack up and move. In my sixteen years of existence I have moved twelve times. I moved from Colorado when mom left dad at age three. There was a move at least once a year since. Mom has taken me with her to Oklahoma, New Mexico, California, Washington, South Dakota, Arkansas, Kentucky, Kansas, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and now from New York. I knew we were headed south and that was about it. The night grows from dusk to dark to black. I guess mom has decided to make it an all-nighter. I close my eyes and drift away to my dreams. Here there is an island where mom cannot escape so I get to stay. I have friends that are not from the Internet and a place that I can call home not just a house. When my eyes flutter open the sun is brightening on the horizon. Mom nudges me and points out the window. We’ve hit South Carolina. I wonder if this is our stop but mom says she just needs a nap. We pull in at a motel and mom checks us in. Six hours later we are on the road again. I have the taste of chili in my mouth from lunch. Another day passes like this and we have now hit Texas. We pull down a street that says Norton. Mom stops in front of a small yellow house and parks in the driveway. “Here we go kiddo.” “Could we have gotten further from New York?” “Yeah Mexico.” “Ha. Do I get own bathroom?” “Own room, bathroom, and study room.” “Awesome.” “Cut the sarcasm and get out.” I'm 16 and write like crazy. I did check a map you can go from NY start going 2 VA the down to SC then hang a left and go through GA, AL, MS, LA, then wala TX

Resolved Question: Road trip from Oregon to Orlando Florida, travel tips?

I'm driving from Oregon to Orlando Florida first week of May to be there to view the next space shuttle launch from the NASA causeway, it's about 3000 miles. I know California & Nevada pretty well, and am comfortable traveling throught them, but Arizona, New Mexico, Texas, Arkansas, Tennessee, etc. on the way to and including Florida is a whole other ball of wax. I'm looking forward to it, but what should I be prepared for as far as weather, and tips for places to stay on the way? I like small, quiet, intimate, clean, safe, independent & interesting motels. I'm older and disabled. Not interested in parties or theme parks. Suggestions for interesting rest stops on the way? Thanks in advance

Resolved Question: How can I best plan a trip from San Antonio, TX to the Ozark Mts. of Arkansas to the Crystal Mines?

I would like to make an appt with a mine owner to be allowed, with maybe a few other homeschool families, to do some crystal digging and retrieval. The kids we take would be 13 and up. I have friends who are leaving tonight to do this and come back on Friday late. I was just too unprepared to make the trip with them this time so fast. One of them has a friend who owns one of the mines and they are shutting it down for several hours on both Thursday and Friday for them to dig. It costs $20 to go in the mine and $100 to come out. Ha! However, they allow you to use their front loader buckets and bring out that much each day. The Motel 6 costs $40 a night. I have wanted to do this for probably 20 years and just never had the chance. I believe this to be one of the mother's of field trips. My friends who left today go every year. They are high school teachers, so always kinda poor. But they told me that the least they have ever gleaned from a short trip is $500 clear. This is after they allow friends/family to pick out crystals, keep some for themselves and sell the rest to a wholesale shop here in San Antonio. I have heard of this from many others for all these years and I would like to figure out how to make the trip feasible for me and my 13 year old son. Our car is not up to a road trip and my hubby needs it for work, anyway. There's no public trans where we live. So I'm thinking we'd need to rent a car that would be able to carry all our stuff plus as many crystals we can get in there. I need, though, to figure out just where I'm probably going (the teacher's will share this info, no doubt) so that I can determine what kind of gas cost we are looking at. That's my biggest concern. I already know the other costs for motel, mine, food (we are taking our own). So, how can I slip past paying sooo much for gas - what type of vehicle would be recommended considering the driving conditions and roads and mountain driving, which may still include a bit of ice or snow. What are we safest in and still very efficient? Any opinions? Anyone made this trip themselves from where ever they live? What were your experiences? Love to hear your stories! Thanks, everyone! Joyce
