Resolved Question: Is there a place for families of ill adults to stay in Iowa City Iowa for a few days at reasonable cost?
My friend's husband will be having fairly serious surgery in Iowa City next week. They are not wealthy and would have to borrow money to afford a motel. Is there a house for family from out of town to stay as there is in some other cities?
They live about 3 hours away from the hospital.

Resolved Question: Price Discrimination Questions?
1. Many pharmaceuticals produced in the United States are sold at lower prices in other countries than in the United States. Proposed legislation would allow drugs sold by U.S. firms in Canada to be re-imported to the United States at prices available in Canada. If such legislation passed, which of the following would most likely occur?
A. The prices at which pharmaceuticals are sold in the United States will fall to the levels that now exist in Canada.
B. The price at which pharmaceuticals are sold in the United States will fall, and the price at which they are sold in Canada will rise.
C. The profits earned by pharmaceutical companies will not be affected because their patents give them monopoly power in supplying many types of drugs.
2. The EarthCom Company prices its wireless service differently in the two market segments it serves even though the cost of adding a new customer is the same in each segment. Market research has shown that EarthCom can increase its profits by price-discriminating, rather than charging the same price to all customers. Currently, the extra revenue that EarthCom obtains from a monthly subscription is $25 in market one and $15 in market two. (Note that these figures are marginal revenues, not prices.) Which of the following statements is most likely correct?
A. EarthCom's price-discrimination policy is probably maximizing its profits.
B. From the information provided, we can't determine whether EarthCom's pricing policy is maximizing its profits.
C. EarthCom's price-discrimination policy is not maximizing EarthCom's profits.
3. After the patent on a drug has expired, the same pharmaceutical is often sold for very different prices under its brand-name label and as a generic (even by the same company).
True or False: This practice does not constitute price discrimination because all customers have the opportunity to buy the lower-priced generic drug.
a) True
b) False
4. An advertisement for a motel chain says that if you stay for three nights at the motel you can stay a fourth night for free. This represents a 25% reduction in price for people who stay four nights. Which of the following statements is more likely to be correct?
A. This practice represents market segmentation for the motel. It lowers the price for people whose demand for rooms is more sensitive to price.
B. If the motel were filled to capacity, it wouldn't run this kind of "sale" on rooms. This practice is just off-peak pricing, not price discrimination.
5. You own the Whitney Farm in central Iowa. You grow and sell corn as do all the neighboring farmers. You and your fellow Iowa farmers grow essentially the same corn, most of which is bought by ranchers as feed for their livestock. Your experience tells you that some ranchers raise livestock that eat only corn while other ranchers raise livestock that will eat a number of different grains. In other words, different types of ranchers have different demands for corn.
Which of the following is most likely to occur, assuming you are a profit-seeker?
A. You will charge a higher price to the ranchers who have a less price-elastic demand for corn and a lower price to those who have a more price-elastic demand for corn.
B. You would like to price-discriminate but you don't believe that it will be feasible in a market in which there are so many corn farmers.
C. You will charge a lower price to the ranchers who have a less price-elastic demand for corn and a higher price to those who have a more price-elastic demand.

Resolved Question: I'm not sure what this means for my pregnancy?
I have a 9 mo. old son and a great boyfriend. He started orientation for his new job early last month, in Iowa (we live in Michigan.) When he was done he flew me out to visit him for the weekend. We spent the whole time in a cheesy motel room and almost never left the bed (you know what I mean.) This was the middle of March.
Now, we also spent the entire month of February screwing like rabbits and we didn't use protection. So when I found out I'm pregnant this past weekend I wasn't really surprised, neither was he.
What I'd like to know is exactly how pregnant am I? I had what I thought was a period on March 2 (2 weeks before I went to Iowa) but it was late and ended early. It wasn't really light but I don't know if I should tell my doctor that THAT was my period or the one before. UGH!
Was it implantation bleeding, or am I only 4 weeks pregnant with terrible mood swings and my pants getting tight already? HELP!
I got to Iowa on Friday the 13 and left on Monday the 16 (didn't have sex the day I left because it was an early flight) according to my conception calendar at Babycenter.com I either conceived on Feb.4 or March 4. I didn't have sex on March 4 because I thought I was having my "period"

Resolved Question: Have some questions?????
Hi. We want to get married in October. Our wedding plans have changed many times. What we have now decided is just to have a small ceremony, with my 3 children, my mom and dad. After the ceremony, we'll go out for dinner as a family. I don't want to go to the justice of peace, because getting married means a lot to me. I want it to be memorable, possibly get married outside because I love nature but where to go, I don't know. Any ideas? Then there's what to wear, any ideas about that? It won't be a wedding dress, but I want it to be nice. Then another question, We live here in West Des Moines, Iowa, For the past week or so, I've been looking up all of the motels around here. I can't seem to find what I'm looking for. We just want a suite for a weekend that's romantic, has a whirlpool or jacuzzi in the room that fits 2 people, maybe a heart shaped one? Also, possibly a restaurant in the motel and room service. I plan on taking my own candles, ect. Any ideas on that? Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Hey, that's a great idea. But October is kind of unpredictable for weather, now I'm worried about the weather. LOL.

Resolved Question: Would you stay at a smoking mother in law's house with your baby?
I'm only 12 weeks along but hubby & I are already arguing about this because we just got back from visiting his mother in Iowa who smoked in the house and didn't care that I was pregnant. Granted she doesn't smoke *in front of me* but the entire house reeks and it's obvious when entering the house that she'd recently lit one up.
I'd like to stay at a motel next time (after baby is born) but hubby says it would hurt her feelings and claims she won't smoke in the house while we're there so I have nothing to worry about. I say I don't want baby to be exposed to the odors and have his clothes smell like an cigarettes. Every time we go there I have to fumigate my suitcase and all its contents because they stink like a dirty ash tray even though she didn't smoke in that room where we stayed. So would you stay in the same house as a smoking MIL if she doesn't smoke in the room with you there? Or would you go to a motel? (or would you not go at all and send hubby alone?)
Actually no, I'm not going to vaccinate against anything that wasn't vaccinated for in 1970 when I was a baby, long before the vaccines caused autism because there are too many of them now.
If my parents smoked I would indeed do the same to them, but that's hard for me to imagine as they are about as anti smoking as you can get. I can't stomach the smell of cigarettes myself and suffer from migraines when I smell them.

Resolved Question: If you're visiting family in another state, is it rude to insist on staying in a motel?
when they want & expect you to stay in their house?
We live on the West coast and visit hubby's family in Iowa once or twice a year. Due to the fact that my MIL smokes and I am pregnant with our first, the house stinks like a dirty ashtray, we all have to share a bathroom, the bed is small (hubby & I are super tall, both 6'+), not to mention I like some privacy, I'd like to go to a motel next time. Hubby says that's a great insult to his mom if I go stay in a motel and she'll be "heartbroken." This might be some difference in values between West coast family and small town Midwest ones because my family would never dream of staying in another family member's house - they always go to motels/hotels. Is it really rude for us (or me if hubby stays with his mom) to stay in a motel next time we visit Iowa? If so, how do I smooth it over?
What's difficult now is that we've already stayed there 3 times since we've been married, so I'm trying to figure out how to not hurt his sensitive mother's feelings. We just came back from our visit there and it was horrible - she smoked IN the house every day and said since she smoked when she was pregnant with my hubby, there is NOTHING wrong with smoking by or near a pregnant woman. My hubby sided with HER because he didn't want to hurt her feelings!! I was livid p*ssed!! Now we're already argueing about going there after the baby's born next year. His mom won't leave Iowa to travel anywhere so we're expected to go there all the time, and I really hate staying in her house being stuck there in boredom all day, besides I hate the ash tray smell everywhere.
I really DO have to pee all night long, lol, and every time I'd go out into the hallway I'd get asphixiated with cigarette smoke....
I'm pregnant with my first after years of infertility and his mom couldn't be bothered to step outside to smoke even though it was 70-75 degrees. (In the winter when we visit she says it's too cold to smoke outside so the house is toxic). I argued about the health of our baby with hubby, who is normally very cautious, but his mom can do no wrong in his eyes...
