Resolved Question: Please criticize my first chapter?
I'm writing about Fallen Angels. It's a little early in the story, so the main character is still oblivious to the dangers that await for her in Kansas.
Birthday.
What exactly is it about that eight-letter word that gets children so bubbly, parents so flustered, and party stores filled?
Birthday.
Just one word. One simple holiday, that only happens once a year. You'd think that something that only happened once a year wouldn't matter. But according to my little sister, Alexiane, it does.
Maybe I wouldn't be so pessimistic if people actually saw Birthdays for what they where. No, they aren't something you should be celebrating. It's like a big slap in the face that says : Hey! You're one step closer to shriveling up and dying! Woohoo!
But no. Instead, they decided to sugar-coat it with presents, streamers, and those teeth-rottening things they call 'Pinatas'.
So instead of giving that speech to anyone who wishes me a 'Happy Birthday', I'll just smile and say 'Thanks', like the good girl my Momma raised me to be.
Yeah. The good girl who cheated on her Alegbra 2 test and put black dye in her blond sister's shampoo bottle.
Yep. Just like my Momma raised me.
There isn't much to do in our town of Riverside- so imagine my excitement when my father announced we where moving.
Now, imagine my disappointment when I found out where we where moving to: Wichita, Kansas, Air Captial of the freakin World.
Don't get me wrong, Kansas is a lovelier state than New Jersey, but really. Wichita, of all places? Why didn't we just book a room at Motel 6? Who knew what could be excepted from the 360,420 living there.
Rednecks, probably.
And my parents voted for Obama.
So why on earth are they moving us to a Republican sate?
I don't know. Why don't you ask them?
Oh wait, you can't. They'll probably just leer at you and clank you on the head with a hairbrush.

Resolved Question: How is the beginning of my story?
So this is the first page of my story called "Writings," and I would like to know if you were reading the book, if you would keep reading. Is the beginning too boring?
I am twelve years old, by the way.
Kaycee Conway tearfully took one last longing glance at her old house. Her older sister, Sara, poked her shoulder with a long purple fingernail.
"Stop looking back, you'll get upset," she said strictly.
"I'm upset already," Kaycee said in a tight voice.
"You'll get more upset," Sara said. She tossed her long, blonde hair. "I'm not upset. This place is a ghost town. Plus, in LA, I can live my dream of being an actress."
"Syracuse is my home," Kaycee insisted.
"That's what you said about our last house, too. Kansas is so rural. I am not a country girl. Los Angeles will be amazing."
"Then we'll get used to it, then we'll move again, and I'll be upset, and you'll be saying 'California is so urban. I am not a city girl.'''
"Shut up. Dad won't make us move if I get a job. Heck, dad won't even have to work anymore because I'll be earning all the money we need having people from all over the place adore me. If dad doesn't work, we don't move, so don't worry about it.
Sara loved the spotlight. She was beautiful and talented, she could sing, dance, act, and play about five different instruments. Sara was fourteen and only about four feet and eleven inches tall, while Kaycee was eleven and about five inches taller than her teenage sister. Sara had big, round, very blue eyes and porcelain skin, and Kaycee had black hair, suntanned skin from playing soccer all summer, and hazel eyes shaped like almonds with the pointy end turned towards her round nose.
Sara continued speaking. "Then I will record a song and sign on with a record company, and I will make even more money. That's what's going to happen when we move to LA."
They climbed in to the back seat of their little black Honda. Mom and Dad were in the front, and as dad pulled out of the driveway, Kaycee put her elbow on the armrest and rested her chin on her fist.
"But if you become a famous singer," Kaycee said suddenly. "Then we'll be away all the time on tour."
"I can go with my manager," Sara said. "That means no Mom, no Dad, no you."
"Meano," Kaycee grumbled. "You're not even fit to be a meanie. You're a meano."
"Who says Sara is becoming a famous singer?" Mom asked from the front seat.
"Sara says," Kaycee replied.
"I never said I was actally going to," said Sara. "I just said it was an oppurtunity."
"You did say you were going to," Kaycee reminded her.
"Shut up." Sara commanded.
"We'll see," Mom said. "Are you going to become a famous actress, too?"
Both Kaycee and Sara knew mom was teasing.
"Yes, mother," Sara answered coldly. "If anyone wants to hire me, then of course."
Mom seemed amused, but did not say anything more.
It was a long time before they stopped at the motel for the night. Sara and Kaycee would have to share a bed that night.
It had taken quite a battle to get Sara to sleep in the same bed as Kaycee.
"But mom," she had whined. "Kaycee snores and flops all over the place. Remember when we lived in Oklahoma and I shared a room with her? I couldn't sleep the whole year we lived there because she wouldn't stop snoring. And you know how every time we move on the first night we usually share the air matress? Well, one time in the middle of the night she flopped so hard she sent me flying. I can't share a bed with her, even just for one night. It's not fair."
"Fair is overrated," was Kaycee's input.
I would like to hear totally honest opinions. This is just the first page of the story. Thanks for reading.

Resolved Question: Horse friendly Lodging near I 70 W in Kansas?
Next summer a friend and i are going to be hauling a horse to Colorado and we're planning on spending the night somewhere in Kansas. We are both fine with camping but I'm not really interested in finding a horse barn to rent a stall at for one night/leaving my horse at a strange barn in a strange state and going off to a hotel/motel. Dose any one have any suggestions on where i can look to find a place. it seems like a long way off now, but trying to get things squared away so i know who to call when the trip comes. Thanks in advance

Resolved Question: Is there a conspiracy to keep me from going home?
I'm stuck in Kansas in a motel room. It's October, I had no idea that I would have a run in with a major snow storm. All that I want to do is to get home in San Francisco and start working again.
I've been trying to get to California from NC for weeks now but major obstacles keep finding a way in front of my path. I'm beginning to wonder if I should have stayed in North Carolina, but something is calling me home.
I was lucky earlier this week because I flipped over my van cruising at 70mph and escaped harm.
Should I be looking for signs? If they are, what is the message? Stay away? or is it some sort of strange test about perseverance?
What am I missing? I need to drive across the Rockies today (if they decide to open the roads). Am I going to make it? I bought an older car to get me home. Am I pushing my luck?

Resolved Question: please help me with this...?
One night all of them have been out of town, well its a different town that i don't know, but it has a few distinct stores that are in my town for example. One of them there was tornado's every where and my entire family was with me and we went to take shelter in a bowling alley, in the bowling alley someone tried to rob my grandmother, and she got stabbed, then my husband went after him, but there was a whole gang of robbers, and they mauled my husband, the original one ran off, ( and at this point in time the bowling alley looked like a movie theater with lanes) he happen to run in to some of my husbands friends, then took care of the robber. My husband then came back fine, ............
another we was traveling down the amazon river (leaves, bugs, trees, snakes, and alligators,) the whole nine yards. We walked and walked and swam exc... then we come to an old abandoned shack on the river bank. we go in to rest. in the middle of the floor there was a huge open crack. when you went near the crack you could here a family of rattle snakes under. so we put a big rug over it so the rattle snakes could not come up. we continued on out trip and when we finally got there we were in Kansas. We stayed at a gas station/motel. there was a very pretty attendant. it turns out the reason we went down the amazon river was to get his car from ks. so we come back the next day and we are driving up by a friends house and he is mad. i asked him what was wrong and he said they woulnt let me move back with my car. and im like wwwwhwwwhat???? and he said that they said it attracts the mosquitos, i looked around the inside of the car and the entire car was covered with them the size of dragon flies. then i asked when he was planning on telling me he was moving, and he said that he figured that i would have figured it out for myself by now, that he was in love with that lady at the gas station in ks, and why did i think his car was down there in the first place....
if some one could help me with what maybe some of my dreams mean, when i have a bad one that seems really realistic, like my husband cheating on me, i wake up mad, i just cant stop thikning about it. thanks

Resolved Question: What does this song actually mean/represent?
Books & Dunn
Indian Summer
tall weeds laid flat down
on the hard black kansas ground
sad song in her head kept blowin round
she barely even knew his name
but she like the way he played the game
everybody cheered when he scored that last touchdown
indian summer,
the wonder,
the hunger,
and the sound of distant thunder,
indian summer
tangled in a moment of truth
bottle of wine in a motel room
blue haze circled round the cold gray moon
while the wind chased the leaves outside
passion found a place to hide
late september heat couldnt be denied
oh indian summer,
the wonder,
the hunger,
and the sound of distant thunder,
indian summer
she never even finished school
people like to talk, they can be so cruel
heard california was a place to start brand new
so she left that dust bowl town
sometimes when a long wind howls
i wonder where we'd be if i never scored that last touchdown
summer,
the wonder,
the hunger,
and the sound of distant thunder
indian summer
