Resolved Question: Some Questions About Taking A Road Trip.?

Me and my friend are taking a road trip in about two years, and we were wondering how much money we would need to spend if we go from NJ/NY to Maine to Kentucky to Idaho to California. We estimated about 600 dollars needed for gas if the car gets 30mpg, but we'd probably be driving around more to places, so maybe even like 1000? We would need about 600 for motels. 400 for food. The trip would take a month, and we would be spending about a week at a friend's house though. Maybe we would have like 400 each to buy whatever we wanted and in case of an emergency. So that's about $2,400 for a month long road trip from coast to coast. Does that seem realistic or not really? Also, I'm wondering if anyone else took a road trip. Where did you go, how much did you spend, what did you do, any interesting places to see, what were some problems and highlights, etc. Thanks in advance!

Resolved Question: Is this a case of you get what you voted for?

Whirlpool in Evansville IN. applied for the Bush tax break in January 2009 allowing them lay off all their workers and their 1000 plus jobs to Mexico. Not only will whirlpool receive a huge tax break for doing so they are exempt for Obamas high tax penalty for moving jobs beyond US Borders since they applied prior to the new law that went into effect in May. It is ironic since Evansville In that I personally know well on the South East corner that borders Kentucky is a proud die hard redneck republican community. They supported Bush and were against health care reform in fear of loosing their company insurance and forced to taking government insurance. This was a lie and they were miss lead. They now have no job in a community where everyone worked at Whirlpool and will have no insurance if the health care reform fails. Evansville look at the bright side 10 miles north at the I-64 get on ramp there are two pilot truck stops, a quick lube, the tire shop a mom and pop truck stop, a flying J aka flying hook truck stop a couple of motel/hotel and micky d's, between all that they should be able to hire maybe 10 people out of 1000 plus, you folks know how hard it is to find jobs around their. Is this a case of you get what you voted for? The George Bush Tax Break Plan for shipping jobs out of the country?

Resolved Question: Cheap but Nice hotels near/in Oak Grove, Kentucky?

Me and my friend are most likely heading to Kentucky to visit our friend who is stationed at Fort Campbell in Oak Grove, Kentucky. We found Park Side Suite Inns Hotel (I think thats the name) and its seems the best bet so far, its only about 3mi away from the base, but you have to be 21...right now we're planning on having her brother get the room for us, but I thought Just in case lets find someplace where you can be 18. We're both 19. So two girls, both 19. Two Beds, One if we have to. May 8 to the 11th. I think...We dont know how long it'll take us to get there...We live in Middleville, MI. I have a GPS so thats cool that way. We kinda wanna be as close to the base as possible. My friend had found another hotel about 5mi away from the base, but that one was a little more expensive. A link to the hotel/motels site would be great! Please and Thank you!!!

Resolved Question: What is your opinion on this beginning?

The city lights fade in the distance, a soon to be distant memory. I slump down in my seat and let the sound of Framing Hanley fill my ears. I blast the volume to drown out the oldies. My poor Zune only goes up to 20. It does the job for now though. I am not even upset this time; it’s that time of year. Mom feels trapped in a relationship or in a job and we pack up and move. In my sixteen years of existence I have moved twelve times. I moved from Colorado when mom left dad at age three. There was a move at least once a year since. Mom has taken me with her to Oklahoma, New Mexico, California, Washington, South Dakota, Arkansas, Kentucky, Kansas, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, and now from New York. I knew we were headed south and that was about it. The night grows from dusk to dark to black. I guess mom has decided to make it an all-nighter. I close my eyes and drift away to my dreams. Here there is an island where mom cannot escape so I get to stay. I have friends that are not from the Internet and a place that I can call home not just a house. When my eyes flutter open the sun is brightening on the horizon. Mom nudges me and points out the window. We’ve hit South Carolina. I wonder if this is our stop but mom says she just needs a nap. We pull in at a motel and mom checks us in. Six hours later we are on the road again. I have the taste of chili in my mouth from lunch. Another day passes like this and we have now hit Texas. We pull down a street that says Norton. Mom stops in front of a small yellow house and parks in the driveway. “Here we go kiddo.” “Could we have gotten further from New York?” “Yeah Mexico.” “Ha. Do I get own bathroom?” “Own room, bathroom, and study room.” “Awesome.” “Cut the sarcasm and get out.” I'm 16 and write like crazy. I did check a map you can go from NY start going 2 VA the down to SC then hang a left and go through GA, AL, MS, LA, then wala TX

Resolved Question: Gathering of The Juggalos 2009?

Well, I need a little help. I'm planning to go with a few friends. We live in Colo. and plan to take the bus (about $300 a ticket) and the closest bus station to Cave-In-Rock I could find was about twelve miles away, but it is in Kentucky. Would a cab be willing to take us across the border? About how much would the ride run? Once there, we might have to stay in a motel (given bus drop off times) How bad are one-star resorts...really? We aren't very lush people and basic and cheap is fine with us. What things should we bring that wouldn't really occur to us to bring? Besides clothes (lots of clothes because of lots of Faygo I'm sure) grooming/showing supplies, tent and sleeping, and (of course) cash, what else would we probably need? Is it possible to see everything? Or should we just try and see whatever we can, choosing our favorites first and watching others when we have a chance? How rowdy does it get at night? (As in noise, parties, concerts?) What's the chances of getting a signing? I know that they do signings, but they can't sit there all day and wait for EVERY SINGLE Juggalo to come in. How long is the wait usually, if you get into line fairly early? Any other tidbits would be much appreciated! Advice for the newbies is always helpful!

Resolved Question: I observe Shabbat, my family doesn't...?

I observe Shabbat. I'm not Orthodox, and don't worry about turning on lights, but I won't watch TV, use the computer, make phone calls, or ride in a motorized vehicle. The last is the problem: I'm 17, and my parents respect my choice, but they don't care themselves. We're staying with non-Jewish (or tolerant) family, and they've made plans to drive from North Carolina to Kentucky to visit my grandfather, on FRIDAY. As my aunt casually said, there's no guarantee that we'll get there before Shabbat (I don't think there's a chance at all), and unfortunately, my parents are siding with them. My mother says that since it's probably the last chance we'll get to see her father (we're leaving the mainland U.S), so anything we have to do is excusable. I pointed out that we could go on our own on Thursday but we don't have our own car, my parents are refusing to take the bus, and my aunt and uncle think I'm nuts. And even if we do get there in time, I'll be stuck in the motel because of the car! Cross-posted from Family, sorry. I'm new to this, and driven to the breaking point by my intolerant relatives and unhelpful parents. If anyone could give some advice with some actual backing in Jewish law, I would be everlastingly grateful. One more note: my parents still consider me a child, and I don't really want to think of the fallout if I go by myself; plus, I can't get to the bus station without someone giving me a ride. Also, I have had an extremely strained relationship with my grandfather (mostly because I'm half-Jewish), and can't really make myself consider him related to me. I know it's wrong, but all the times we've met in the past, he could do nothing but criticize me. And yes, I do have a choice: Stay here with my cousin and her family. They're sweet people, and try to be understanding, but the thought of spending Shabbat with me makes me shudder. Thank you to "Hello, Dad" (great name, by the way), Aryeh M, Michelle R, and most of all mazngrace2k. I was reading your advice and felt the warm glow I felt when I first defended Shabbat against adverse circumstances. I've heard it described as G-d smiling, and I feel it means I've done my part and G-d will make sure the rest works out. Who knows, perhaps circumstances will force us to delay our trip until after the weekend (it's happened before). At any rate, the whole thing will be a good way to explain Judaism. As for how I'm half-Jewish, I am not officially Jewish, but consider myself so and am planing on converting to cement it. Basically, my father's Jewish, my mother's not, and she didn't bother to convert although she became Jewish in her own eyes and almost everyone else's. I'm only really converting so everyone will accept me as what I already know I am. To me, you don't chose your religion, it chooses you. Sorry for not opening up to email, but I share it with my parents...
