so my friends and i want to drive from louisiana to panama city beach for spring break which is in march .... can anyone suggest cheap hotels (no roach motels lol) nice but not to pricey and kinda close to the beach (walking distance.).. and if anyone has and price estimates that would be nice also

I have this recurring dream that I would drive in the country in New Jersey (I live in Ohio and will be moving to Arizona in a year), and on my way to NYC, There are several roads I got lost on. I would be driving one minute, walking the next. I am back to my childhood home in Louisiana (in real life, it was.) I would walk, get lost, in the country. After walking in the country for about a half hour, I ended up in a bad area, the ghetto, with seedy motels and strip club dives. I ran, and would almost go into circle, seeing familiar stores, my old high school, places I went to as a kid, but never got home. I keep seeing signs of the interstate highways. It wasn't just one, like I-10, and that's it. It's like there are twenty of them on one post, almost like a grid. Then I am back to driving. I ended up in a busy city, a freeway or interstate, with dozens of overhead signs pointing to odd directions. Then I woke up. Same dream again and again. I am a 31 year old white male.

Resolved Question: I hate college. What can I do?

I'm a child who is willing to do whatever it takes to make my mom happy...even go to college when I don't want to. I go to southeastern Louisiana university, and I hate it. The people there are all friends with people they went to high school with. I'm a loner, so that's fine, but it's aggravating. The dorms are designed like a motel, so leaving our doors open is against the rules and people aren't open to meeting others. At first, I wanted to go my local community college, BRCC. My mom, however, hated that idea and she wanted me to go to a 4 year university. I'm not ready for that yet! I did horrible in high school. My gpa was a 1.8! I'll always say Jesus got me into college. I wanted to transfer somewhere else, but my mom gets sick alot, so I need to stay close by. LSU is expensive and 30 minutes from home. ULL is across a bridge, and my mom isn't comfortable with that idea. NSULA is 3 hours away, and since my mom gets sick, she doesn't want me to go. She's threatening a heart attack in ICU right now, and despite how unhappy I am, I can't leave because I'm afraid of what will happen. I wanted to transfer to Houston or Atlanta, but again, both of those are too far for her. Please help me. What can I do to make SELU work? I don't need friends. I can handle being alone, but I can't handle failing, and I'm just not up to a college level in academics yet. I'm too lazy, especially for the English honors class I signed up for like an ass. My major is Liberal Arts and I want to be a writer. Help! Thanks. At this university, Liberal arts is just a branch of English...so I'll just say English major to avoid confusion. I'M AN ENGLISH MAJOR AND I HATE THIS PLACE. tutoring in the math labs and the writing center are provided for us.

so i start college this fall and my best friend and i are going to different schools and we're planning a trip for next summer. we're wanting to go to bristol, england for about two weeks. we're from louisiana and neither of us have either been out of the country or flown. here are my questions: 1. where do we go to get a passport? 2. how soon before we leave do we need to apply for our passports? 3. what are the names of some motels/hotels/inns that we could rent a room at that isn't nasty but not expensive? 4. what are some things to do/see there with historic value? 5. what kind of things should i bring on the plane? 6. will i need any kind of adapters for my phone and computer chargers? and any other information for a first time traveler that you could think of. :) thanks, y'all!

Voting Question: What's better when moving to another State? Staying in a Motel or finding a room for rent?

Will be moving to Louisiana from Seattle in a few months. Planning on transferring my job to our Baton Rouge office, but don't have any relatives/friends I can stay with in that area until I find my own place. Do you think it's better to stay in a Motel for a month or rent out a room from someone's house that I've never met? Kinda don't want to rent my own place until I've had a chance to view the place and check out the neighborhood first.

Voting Question: How do I get wireless Internet on my laptop?

I live in southeast Louisiana and ever since Hurricane Gustav, I've been without Internet, which I receive from the cable company, Charter (I'm currently using a friend's computer). I use an old IBM ThinkPad 600 laptop that I got as a gift and it was bought from a guy who buys and sells from eBay. I had nothing to do with the transaction, so that's why I'm so confused about the laptop and it's Internet connection abilities. The guy threw in an old, box-y looking LinkSys thingy (sorry, I don't know what it's called) that has two jacks, one for a phone line and one for an ethernet cable. Underneath the LinkSys thing is what I believe is a wireless adapter. I'm not certain, but I know that it's process on the Task Manager is "rtlwake.exe." When we evacuated for Gustav, we went to a motel that, when I set up a wireless connection out of clicking things, gave us Internet. I'm still confused about how it all works. What I want to know is, why can't I get wireless internet from my home? I recently went to Circuit City to ask about wireless Internet and they told me that I had to sign up for some sh!t with Verizon. I kindly told them "no thank you." I know that I don't have to sign up for anything to get wireless. Isn't there something that you can buy to get wireless? Any help is very much appreciated.

Resolved Question: What do you think about the Motel 6 in Slidell, Louisiana?

We are going to Slidell, for my daughter's tball softball team national tournament next week. We have rooms reserved at the Courtyard Marriott in Covington, but some of the parents want to stay at the Motel 6 in Slidell, because it's way cheaper. But some parents don't. One of the parents called the Slidell police department and they told him that there is a cop needed out there every weekend. Well that was a red flag. Our girls are young and we do not want to put them in danger. Does anyone know how it is out there or if they know the neighborhood I really do not want to stay there... the head coach is worried about the money. He says its because we already have the money to pay for it. which is about $2300. But were going to raise money the rest of the weekend and should come up with more. I just do not feel good about that hotel.

rent a motel by the hour, or are other states just as sleazy? Asking because I think a law was passed yesterday that prohibits the renting of rooms on an hourly basis for Jefferson Parish.
