Synopsis of Montana

Montana, state in the western United States, the northernmost of the Rocky Mountain states. Montana is called the Treasure State because of its mineral wealth. The name Montana comes from the Spanish word meaning ''mountainous'' and was first used when the area was designated a territory in 1864. Montana entered the Union on November 8, 1889, as the 41st state. Helena is the capital. Billings is the largest city.

Although many people consider Montana completely mountainous, two-thirds of the state is part of the Great Plains. From the majestic peaks of Glacier National Park in the northwest to the comparatively level terrain near the eastern border the Montana landscape is one of great beauty, an ever-changing panorama of forest and prairie, highland and broad valley.

Tourism is a leading source of income. Easterners were attracted to Montana as early as the late 19th century, and Montana's dude ranches have been popular since they first opened in 1920. Today, Yellowstone and Glacier national parks and the numerous state parks and recreation and wilderness areas are leading summer attractions. More than 6 million tourists visit Yellowstone and Glacier national parks annually. The state has many popular winter ski resorts, including Red Lodge Mountain; Big Mountain, near Whitefish; Montana Snow Bowl, near Missoula; and Big Sky and Bridger Bowl, near Bozeman.

Montana's history has been turbulent. The region experienced an early and active fur-trading era. With the discovery of gold it developed a vigorous and wealthy mining frontier and later saw a brief but exciting period of the open-range cattle industry. Eventually, dryland and irrigated agriculture spread into many parts of the state. Today despite the arrival of urbanization and modern society, much of the old flavor of the frontier West survives in Montana.

Resolved Question: Whats the most boring TV channel other than C-Span and all the disney Channels?

I'm not talking the channels that get rented out and only show commercials (Dish network does that with some of their extra channels) I'm talking channels that have been on for years. The most boring channel I can think of is Animal Planet because my sister has watches that stupid "Big Cat Dairy" show, she's watched about every episode about 20 times and I'm getting sick of looking at these stupid cats walking around in Africa all the episodes are the same just stupid cats walking around and boring stuff and "Meer kat manor" was the same thing but they wasted alot of money advertising for a show that didn't get much views its really her fault I hate the channel, most of the time when I'm at home I can leave and go to another room most of the time but if its raining at a motel and she has the retarded channel on I can't go anywhere to get away from it. Why do all their documentary shows take place in Africa too? is it because the animals there ain't scared of cars and people and it's flat and easy to film there? I haven't learned anything off that channel in about 7 years why can't they film animals that live in North Amica? I don't think I would lean anything but at least the channel might be kind of neat but I guess people are too lazy to walk throw the mountains with the camera's because on Big Cat Dairy their always in there land rovers and the show is just boring and there "It's Me Or The Dog" Show is always the same Animals cops was ok but all their Other shows where dumb and their "planets funniest animals" was a 100% rip off of "America's Funniest Home Video's" all the Disney channels are just stupid but other than my sister liking a few dumb Hannah Montana songs she doesn't watch the channels (because as stupid as she is she is smart enough to hate all the Disney Channels) so I'm not really gonna go over them.

Resolved Question: Why do some roadside motels charge so much for a basic hotel room?

Last summer, I drove from Texas to Pennsylvania and was able to walk in without a reservation and get a room for $80 including taxes. I stayed at Comfort Inns, which weren't the cheapest but also not the priciest hotel chain. This summer I was thinking about driving to Seattle Washington from Texas. I looked at hotel rates for the cities I planed to stop at for the night and some wanted $100 a night or more before taxes. The Comfort Inn in Hays Kansas, which is out in the middle of nowhere , wanted $99.99. Through Wyoming, Montana, and Idaho it was even more. I changed the dates around but they were still the same. None of these hotels were that close to National Parks and they had several hotels nearby to compete with.

Resolved Question: Where's a cheap place to stay in Montana?

A hotel, a chalet, a motel, anything really just something cheap. Me and a few friends are driving down from Canada for skiing and on a teenagers budget we need to cut some costs. Oh, uh, we're going to Whitefish.

Resolved Question: Did you ever run out of money when you were traveling ?

My friend Sam and I live in Montana . We took Sam’s son, Ben, to South Dakota this month . Most of the money Sam took was on a a debit card from his bank . We took tour bus # 1 on Monday . The driver charged according to mileage and time spent, so we couldn’t get a fixed amount to begin with . We took tour bus # 2 to Mount Rushmore on Tuesday . This tour charged a fixed rate for every passenger, so we knew exactly how much it was going to be . We ALMOST took tour bus # 1 to Deadwood on Wednesday, but the driver wasn’t set up to take debit or credit cards . Sam couldn’t get a cash advance from an ATM machine, our motel couldn’t give Sam a cash advance, and the banks probably weren’t open at that point . This tour bus driver found us another tour that could take debit or credit cards . THIS tour charged according to the mileage she drove, the time she spent, expenses, and for the number of passengers, so, again, we couldn’t get a fixed amount to begin with . The first two tours really weren’t too expensive, but the third tour really laid us low financially . Sam had to call his sister, and she put enough money on his card to where we could eat until we got home . Sam’s sister gave him a small lecture ( “You should have spent your money wisely !” ) . I figure things like this can happen to anybody, no matter how wisely they spend their money . These tours can’t always give you an idea of how much they’re going to charge . You can also run into an unexpected expense . Did we do so bad ? Couldn’t this have happened to anybody ? Did we spend our money foolishly, or did events conspire against us ? Did you ever run out of money when you were traveling ? What did you do ?

Resolved Question: Why does my upload on facebook keep failing?

I'm traveling a lot right now. We've driven from Manitoba to Saskatchewan, Alberta, Montana, Wyoming, back to Alberta, British Columbia, and we're currently in the Canadian Northwest Territories. (I'm Canadian, not American). We are going to be going to the Yukon and back to British Columbia before going back home in Manitoba. I am staying at motels/hotels with wireless internet for my laptop, like right now, but whenever I try to upload photos to facebook using the full uploader (got a lot of photos and I have the necessary requirements [active X, Java version]) it fails. Everything else on the internet works, except that. Why?

Resolved Question: My Hubby and I are planning a ROAD TRIP from FL.-->MT.-->AB, Canada?

Hi friends on Yahoo! So this coming Feb. 2010, my Hubby, 2 year old son, and I are planning a trip to see my mom in Montana. We live in Florida and we want to drive. So here are the details... to rent a car for 15 days from Avis is around $450 not including additional things that are advised further I mapquested the miles and time...its a 38 hr & 42 min. trip $224.25 at 30 miles to a gallon.( i estimate $250 in gas just incase) I plan to pack ALOT of dry foods like granola, dried fruit, cookies, crackers, and special foods for my son..along with gallons of water and some added drinks/milk for our kid.we stop to eat for dinner.( $1 menu!) Ok, then we estimate Days Inn at $50-$55(they have free breakfasts!) for the night, we plan to stay maybe 1-2 times at a motel/hotel or sleep in our car if we both cannot switch off driving any longer.and to shower/bathe our child. OK, and the same coming home. While we are there,we hope to travel to Canada for the day. It takes about 4 hours from my Mom's town. (Fort Benton-Alberta) The gas is about $20 to get there according to mapquest. So, is it really cold in Feb in both Montana and Canada?? Do we need a passport to enter Canada( to be safe, we should get one right?)and what are some tips on road travel if i have forgotten anything? do i need a special car to rent upon driving through snow if there is any at that time?
