Resolved Question: I'm traveling to New York city and don't know where to stay. Help?
My partner and I are traveling to New York City on May 12, 13 and checking out on Friday May 14th, 2010. We would like to see 5th Ave, Statue of Liberty, Times Square and a bunch of gay bars and clubs.
We are on a strict budget and only want to spend about $65-85 a night for a motel. Would it be wise for us to stay at nearby New Jersey for the lower cost of lodging rather than New York. And if we do stay in N.J. are there any trains or subway from N.J. that can take us from the motel to New York so I don't have to drive and find parking in the city.
Can you give me any suggestions??? Also maybe a low cost motel that's close to a train or subway.
Thanks very much!!! We're traveling from Cali and have never been to New York before.

Resolved Question: Advice please...Am I eligible in any way to work/move to the USA?
I am wanting to move to the states (Perm or Temp for now- prefferably permanantly) and would like advice on my options and if I am eligible to do so.
I have done alot of research myself and tried to check out the Visas available as much as i could. I think it may not be possible (Im hoping somehow it is..that's why am writing this!), but as i am becoming frustrated and stuck, i wanted to see if anyone else knew anything more.
I want to write a brief background to myself which may open up options that make it possible for me to make the move. Excuse me if some of the stuff seems irrelevant..I am just trying all i can right now.
I have lived in London all my life.
Mother born in Ireland. Father born in Kenya- they both been in the UK since their teens.
I am aged 25yrs old.
Went to college after school-jumped between jobs in retail and building industry have been in sales(estate agency) for the last 5 years.
I do have family in the states-(lots of 1st cousins and aunts and uncles) new jersey and north carolina- They have been there for just over 20 years-They own and run motels ie Days Inn/Howard Johnson/Holiday Inn etc.
I have been to the states around 10 times
I haved worked at a summer camp about 6 years ago( I had to get a visa for that) Travelled around for a few months too.
I probably have more knowledge of the states than my own country.
Im open to doing any kind of work(initially)
I appreciate all advice and help
Thanks for reading
Cheers

Resolved Question: Please criticize my first chapter?
I'm writing about Fallen Angels. It's a little early in the story, so the main character is still oblivious to the dangers that await for her in Kansas.
Birthday.
What exactly is it about that eight-letter word that gets children so bubbly, parents so flustered, and party stores filled?
Birthday.
Just one word. One simple holiday, that only happens once a year. You'd think that something that only happened once a year wouldn't matter. But according to my little sister, Alexiane, it does.
Maybe I wouldn't be so pessimistic if people actually saw Birthdays for what they where. No, they aren't something you should be celebrating. It's like a big slap in the face that says : Hey! You're one step closer to shriveling up and dying! Woohoo!
But no. Instead, they decided to sugar-coat it with presents, streamers, and those teeth-rottening things they call 'Pinatas'.
So instead of giving that speech to anyone who wishes me a 'Happy Birthday', I'll just smile and say 'Thanks', like the good girl my Momma raised me to be.
Yeah. The good girl who cheated on her Alegbra 2 test and put black dye in her blond sister's shampoo bottle.
Yep. Just like my Momma raised me.
There isn't much to do in our town of Riverside- so imagine my excitement when my father announced we where moving.
Now, imagine my disappointment when I found out where we where moving to: Wichita, Kansas, Air Captial of the freakin World.
Don't get me wrong, Kansas is a lovelier state than New Jersey, but really. Wichita, of all places? Why didn't we just book a room at Motel 6? Who knew what could be excepted from the 360,420 living there.
Rednecks, probably.
And my parents voted for Obama.
So why on earth are they moving us to a Republican sate?
I don't know. Why don't you ask them?
Oh wait, you can't. They'll probably just leer at you and clank you on the head with a hairbrush.

Resolved Question: Dream about interstate highways...?
I have this recurring dream that I would drive in the country in New Jersey (I live in Ohio and will be moving to Arizona in a year), and on my way to NYC, There are several roads I got lost on. I would be driving one minute, walking the next. I am back to my childhood home in Louisiana (in real life, it was.) I would walk, get lost, in the country. After walking in the country for about a half hour, I ended up in a bad area, the ghetto, with seedy motels and strip club dives. I ran, and would almost go into circle, seeing familiar stores, my old high school, places I went to as a kid, but never got home. I keep seeing signs of the interstate highways. It wasn't just one, like I-10, and that's it. It's like there are twenty of them on one post, almost like a grid.
Then I am back to driving. I ended up in a busy city, a freeway or interstate, with dozens of overhead signs pointing to odd directions.
Then I woke up.
Same dream again and again.
I am a 31 year old white male.

Resolved Question: How to walk across america?
Hello all. I don't have many choices left. Since my mother died my life has been going in a constant downward spiral. Now my landlord wants me out in six months or pay $1500 rent. I have no intention of paying that much for this awful place. If they let me stay till the warmth of may or June I can sleep in the local park, the homeless shelters in my area brooklyn ny all have 3 yr waiting lists. I have money but no one will rent to me, I have no job. So I thought to myself what if I walked across America? Walk by day and at night sleep in a motel? The only problem is i don't quite know how to do this. I don't know what the best routes to take from bushwick Brooklyn out of the city into new jersey and west verginia and the carolinas and Georgia and Florida. New Orleans Oaklahoma Texas and so fourth. Is there anyone who has done this, or would anyone like to come along with me if I do choose to go? Any help would be appreciated. Would be nice to have a waking companion.

Resolved Question: I edited my chapter with more detail.. what else should i do?
“Dorothy!Dorothy!Get up!”
“Mom? What happened?” Dorothy said frightened and tired.
“I'll explain later. Get up and start packing your stuff. We're getting out of here.”
As the 14 year old Dorothy Walker sat up in her bed tiredly stretching, her mother was stuffing Dorothy's tight blue skinny jeans and shirts into a huge luggage. Dorothy looked over at her alarm clock. 4:37 AM. Dorothy was scared of what was going on.
“Can you at least tell me what I have to pack for?” Dorothy asked.
“Just pack a bunch of warm blankets and pillows, some canned foods and get Abraham ready. Leave the rest to me.”
Dorothy's mom was rushing across the room. She was packing everything. Dorothy's mom was panicking and mumbling words really fast Dorothy could not catch.
Dorothy sprang into action and did as her mother told her. She packed warm blankets and pillows. She got some canned foods. And she got their 5 month old tiny beagle on his blue and black checkered leash and packed food for him. She still didn't understand what was going on.
“Hey mom?”
“Yes honey?” Answered Dorothy's mom Lisa in a hurried voice.
“Wheres dad?” Dorothy asked curiously.
“He's withdrawing some money that we need in cash right now. He should be on his way back already.”
“Why do we need the money?”
“I told you, I'm going to explain later. Now move all the things out side. Make sure you have everything you need. Bring all your money, pens paper and a binder. Okay?”
“Okay.”
Dorothy was a very obedient girl. She always did as she was told. She was just an average teenager. A brown hair, brown eyes, American girl.
Her father John got home. He was rushing, opening the back door of the car, and starting to pack everything into the back of the van. Lisa rushed Dorothy into the car. Placed the little puppy they call Abe onto Dorothy's lap and were ready to drive off. They drove out of the driveway. Onto the empty streets. With the sun at dawn, Dorothy looked at the time. 5:20.
They were on the high way. There was silence. There usually never is when they are in the car. The radio would be on the highest it can be, the windows rolled down, listening to any random station, The whole family would be singing and laughing, people in cars driving by would stare and think they were crazy.
“Where are we going”Dorothy asked
“Well right now, we are still in New Jersey. We are planning to get to Middle Lancaster in Pennsylvania by tonight. We are going to try to find a motel there.” said John
“I don't understand. Are we going to visit family or something?”
“No, someone tried to kill your father, he almost got shot so we have to get out of the state.”said Dorothy's mother
“Who would do that? Dad never did anything wrong.”
“I got no idea, baby. People are just crazy these days.”said Dorothy's mother
“Why don't we go to the police? They would do something.”
“We can't. They said it is impossible to catch them. The bullet the guy shot had no finger prints or anything.” Said Dorothy's mother
“Oh.”
Abe barked. He had to pee. John pulled over. Dorothy let Abe do his business. She looked at her watch: 8:42 AM. She got back into her seat. She was quite peckish.
“Mom, I'm getting hungry.”
Lisa handed Dorothy a bag of potato chips.
“Go to sleep honey. In a few we can stop and eat some food we got in the back.”
“Okay”
So Dorothy finished her bag of chips, hugged Abraham and went to sleep
